The wall hangings in the stairwells in particular are dated and in poor repair. These are loads of fun for young and old plus you get a workout walking up the stairs. For an added thrill, one slide has a clear section which goes over the side of the ship so you can look down at the ocean. Both slides are the same speed but only one has the cool clear panel with a sea view. There are 72 new inside and balcony staterooms in the forward section of the ship on deck 11 and 12 inside cabins only.

Book early to snag one of these sparkling new cabins. Johnny Rockets and the Doghouse have been removed.

For a ship with such a big focus on families and fun in the sun, a casual poolside dining option was greatly missed on our sailing. The new Suite Lounge area is a terrific addition for those staying in a suite, with ocean views and modern furnishings plus a dedicated concierge. Add the complimentary cocktail hour, breakfast, and all day snacks and you might just be tempted to upgrade on your next sailing.

The Diamond Club on Voyager of the Seas is lovely but also very, very small. Even on quieter sailings, this new space will almost certainly struggle to cater to the number of Diamond members onboard. The Vitality Spa and Fitness Centre will be enhanced and relocated to the aft of the ship. The spa and gym will offer its extensive, signature menu of services, including massages, acupuncture, manicures, fitness classes and personal training. The reimagined ship will also feature the new Royal Caribbean International mobile app, through which guests can check in for their cruise vacation from their phone, and once on board, use an array of capabilities, such as planning activities for each day of the itinerary, and viewing onboard expenses, to booking and managing dining, shore excursion and show reservations.

Carnival Magic completes dry-dock, debuting all-new Carnival Cruise Line livery. Royal Caribbean revises refurbishment plans for Explorer of the Seas due to pandemic. The new seating looks more upmarket and visually appealing too. Crowd flow has also been improved, with more space to walk between the food stations and additional places to get a drink to enjoy with your meal. The swish new suite lounge on Deck 14 next to the Viking Crown Lounge is a right royal affair with deep crimson furnishings, tasteful jewel-bright colour accents and fancy signature light fittings.

We haven't yet had a chance to try this new glow-in-the-dark laser tag adventure in Studio B but it looks like a lot of fun. Adding USB charging ports, for example, would have made a big difference to the in-cabin experience. Fortunately, the adjacent Star Lounge was available to use as an overflow area for the hundreds of Diamond members on our extremely busy sailing.
